Ephesians 4:11-12 states, “So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” This verse highlights a profound truth: spiritual growth goes hand in hand with the Word of God and service. As we serve in the Kingdom of God, we not only strengthen others but also experience personal transformation and growth.
The Correlation Between Spiritual Growth and Service
Serving in the Kingdom provides an opportunity to exercise our God-given gifts, apply our knowledge, and deepen our relationship with God. When we step out to serve, we are exposed to different situations that require wisdom, faith, and intimacy with God. Each encounter shapes our spiritual maturity, drawing us closer to Christ and strengthening our trust in Him.
One of the greatest benefits of serving is that it pushes us beyond our comfort zones. In moments of service, we experience firsthand how God moves, and this builds our faith. Service is not just about giving—it is also about receiving divine revelation, encouragement, and strength.
A Testimony of Faith and Growth
I recall a powerful testimony of a young man I ministered to who was in search of a job. When I shared the good news of Jesus Christ with him, he listened but politely told me he was not interested—unless Jesus could give him the job he was applying for. In response, I told him that Jesus is willing, wanting, and able to provide for his needs.
Philippians 4:19 states, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.”
At that moment, his eyes lit up with excitement, and he expressed his willingness to accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior. We prayed together, asking God for both his salvation and his job. Afterward, I left, trusting that God would move in his life.
The following Friday, I felt prompted to return to the mall to share the gospel again. As I passed by the same place where I had spoken to the young man, I noticed someone working at a food stall. He saw me, and with a big smile, he confirmed that he was the same young man I had prayed for! He excitedly shared that he had gotten the job. We rejoiced together, praising Jesus, who had proved His faithfulness to this young man.
Not only did this young man receive salvation, but he also experienced a tangible blessing—a job—as part of the package. This shows how Jesus meets both our spiritual and physical needs, reinforcing that when we seek Him first, He takes care of the rest.
Mark 11:24 states, “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.”
That experience deepened my own spiritual growth. Seeing faith in Jesus at work strengthened my belief in God’s promises. I was reminded that God hears our prayers and moves when we trust in Him.
Growing Through Acts of Service
Every act of service in the Kingdom becomes a stepping stone to deeper faith. When we serve, we:
Exercise our spiritual gifts – Teaching, evangelizing, or helping others sharpens our abilities and allows us to fulfill our God-given purpose.
Apply our biblical knowledge – Service provides opportunities to put Scripture into action, making the Word come alive in our daily experiences.
Grow in faith – Witnessing God move through our service increases our trust and confidence in Him.
Develop wisdom and intimacy with God – Facing different situations in ministry pushes us to seek God more deeply, relying on His guidance and wisdom.
